Creative DIY Wedding Wine Stem Decorations

DIY Wedding – Wine Stem Decorations

What is the one thing that nobody has and if they did, they would always want more of?  WINE STEM CHARMS!

DIY Wedding

This was a very simple and very cheap project to take on as I already had most of the beads. The only thing I had to purchase was the wire from Michaels. There is no “set size” wire to buy. It just needs to be thick enough so that is will hold it’s shape when you twist it, but small enough to fit the beads on it. You can also buy cheap beads at Michaels.

Wedding Decorations

The instructions couldn’t be more simple. Make a loop at the end of the wire with needle nose pliers. Play around with different lengths as you can go as simple or as elaborate as you want! After adding your beads, close the wire with the same type of loop as before.

Wedding Do it Yourself

I put six of them in a clear plastic bag and attached a tag that said “Wine Charms.” Happy crafting :)

Photo Booths Gone Wild!

To Photo Booth or NOT to Photo Booth… That is the question!

It seems that more and more couples are opting to rent a photo booth for their wedding reception today. I must say, this is definitely one of my favorite current unique wedding reception trends. What are the benefits of having one, you might ask? Well for one thing, your guests will have a blast taking goofy wedding reception photos of themselves all evening. And more importantly, your photographer can remain focused on capturing all of the special moments between you and your new hubby! However, if your budget cannot quite swing the rental of a traditional photo booth, there are many creative alternatives out there. Here are just a few of the great ideas I found!

Do-it-yourself Photo Booths

One clever bride, along with her wedding planner, Sasha Souza, created the fabulous photo booth displayed below. They essentially covered a large piece of wood with wallpaper, then added framed family photos and large open frames for their guests to poke their heads through. Is this not the cutest thing you’ve ever seen?!

Creative Photo Cut-outs

When the dynamic duo of Jane and John (of John and Joseph Photography) and Jane Lee Photography) were recently married, photography played a big role in their celebration. These two had a life-size cardboard cutout of themselves constructed for their guests to pose with!

Involve your guests

You can simply provide your guests with disposable cameras and let them take their own pictures. Consider making props available to your guests as well! Hats, feather boahs, costume jewelry, mustaches and eyeglasses are just a few of the items that can be used. They will surely entice your guests to get a little silly (especially after a few cocktails) and you will end up with some hilarious wedding reception photos that you will cherish for years to come.

Whether you decide to rent a traditional photo booth or devise your very own, it is yet another wonderful way to engage your wedding guests and ensure that your big day is not only unique, but tons of fun!

When to “I DO” ?

Picking my wedding date

The first big accomplishment with our wedding planning was picking our wedding date and where to have the ceremony. Erik and I became exclusive on July 4th and we didn’t want an Independence Day wedding.

We considered April 7th to be the big day because it’s 7/4 backwards. However, unless we wanted to be married in the middle of the week, we would have to wait until at least 2012. With both of those options out, we simply got out a calendar and started looking at dates.

January and February were too close to Erik’s birthday. May was my divorced parent’s wedding anniversary. June is my birthday month. July and August are WAY too hot in South Florida. September is the start of school. November and December are holiday months.

All of that narrowed it down to March, April, or October. So how did we decide? I got a calendar. We counted the days (literally) between his birthday and mine, found that closest Saturday and that’s our date!

Problems with our wedding planning

Since we got engaged in July 2008, our next question to answer was “Are we ready to get married in eight months?” For us, the answer was no. I was taking classes and only in my second year of teaching. I wanted to enjoy my engagement and Erik wasn’t going anywhere! I really think this is one of the most important decisions to make because weddings are a production. It takes time to plan and if you think it’s all going to “fall” into place, then I’ll say a prayer for you.

Erik and my engagement will have been twenty months when we say I do. Now that we are at the six month stretch, I can honestly say that the past fourteen months have FLOWN by. I still have a few more items on my wedding list that I haven’t even looked at yet, but not one item of the planning process has prompted me into”Bridezilla” mode.

Advice for picking your wedding date

My advice is be realistic. I have enjoyed my long engagement, but every bride is different! Once you have a day in mind, then commit to the time frame you want to work with.

Creating Classic Wedding Photography Moments

For a classic touch, Kristen bought parasols for her and her bridesmaids to carry on the wedding day.

Custom details that the couple planned around for their Big Day really made their wedding unique. One element they used throughout their wedding was a custom monogram. Kristen used a monogram of her maiden name in her wedding dress as her “something blue.” Monograms were also used on the Groom’s shirt, the hankies, the menus, and the programs. This element really pulled the different parts of the day together.

Kristen’s Kate Spade shoes were her favorite detail of the day. She absolutely cherished them!

Creating Unique Wedding Photography Moments

The book To Kill a Mockingbird is one of their favorites. As lawyers, Kristen and Bryan especially love the main character Atticus because he exemplifies what it is to be both a great lawyer and father. Because they love they book so much, they decided to share it with their wedding guests – giving each guest a copy of the book as a favor. I love this idea! It adds such a personal touch.

Kristen grew up riding horses and her Dad surprised her on the day of the wedding with a horse drawn carriage ride after the ceremony.

Featured Wedding Website: Annie & Greg

Annie & Greg’s site is our featured WeddingWindow.com wedding website of the week. You definitely get the feeling that this couple has a lot of fun together. The personal photos and rich color palette are very nicely coordinated. Annie and Greg have also done a wonderful job of providing their guests with plenty of planning resources and helpful links. Congratulations Annie and Greg!Annie and Greg's Wedding WebsiteWeddingWindow.com Website Design: “Serendipity”

1. How has your website has been most helpful?
Our website has been extremely helpful in allowing us to provide our guests with information regarding the entire wedding weekend.  As about 95% of our guests are from out of town, it is important to me to be able to provide plenty of information regarding accomodations and of course directions to all of the wedding weekend events.  I also love the ability to provide information for local restaurants, things to do, and the weather feed is awesome!   We are planning an outdoor ceremony so I like that it prompts people to think about the weather.

2. How did you customize your website?
The templates provided are really great, and the color suggestions are already well matched in my opinion.  Therefore we really customized our site by using all of our own pictures.  We had some really interesting engagement pictures that we were able to upload to make the site look more customized than if we choose to use the stock photography.

3. Did you customize other elements of your wedding as well? If so, what were they?
I have been really determined to make this wedding “ours”.  While certain traditions are meaningful to me, many others just don’t seem necessary.  I didn’t want all of my bridesmaids who are already traveling from far away to be with me, to have to buy a specific bridesmaid dress, so I’ve asked them all just to wear anything they want.  Since it’s a Fall wedding, I just asked that they stick to “jewel tones” as far as the color.  I just want them to be comfortable – I really don’t like the tradition of the bridesmaids dress!

I also really customized the menu choosing a lot of items that are not typical for the Country Club (which is where we will have the reception)  I grew up in Saudi Arabia, and my parents now live in the Kentucky (which is where we are getting married).  So half of the food will be authentic Kentucky fare, and the other half is all Arab food.  They are even using some of my family favorite recipies to make the Arab food.

In addition, I work for a company that makes amazing layer and pound cakes that we ship all over the US.  So rather than having a traditional wedding cake, we will have an elaborate dessert display with various cake stands featuring all the amazing flavors of layer cakes that we make at VeryVera.  The dessert display will also feature baklava from my families favorite vendor to match the Arab theme.

We also customized other elements of the wedding through the various stationary elements: customized labels for the favor boxes, we had a wonderful calligrapher write our invitation from which Crane could then create the cast for engraving.  So it’s really a one of a kind invitation as opposed to using a font they already offered.

4. What was your favorite feature?

My favorite feature is the ability to upload multiple songs to the website.  I love music, and for me, it’s a really important way to conjure emotions and set the tone for the guests.  Much like the pictures we uploaded, it’s a great way to make the website about us.  We used all songs that are meaningful to both of us.   I think the website would be far less impactful if we did not have the ability to play music.
