How to Create a “Boo-tiful”, Yet Elegant Halloween Wedding

If you think a Halloween themed wedding must consist of Gothic or “spooky” imagery, think again! It’s relatively easy to create a tasteful, elegant Halloween wedding that simply pays homage to the season without screaming HALLOWEEN. It’s all in your decor choices. Essentially, a wedding should be tailored to the personalities of the bride and groom, right? So, if you’re thinking of hosting a Halloween wedding, start out by asking yourselves, “Will there be cobwebs and spiders on the wedding cake?” If yes, then pretty much anything goes. If, however, you are seeking something a bit more traditional, seek out subtle ways of suggesting Halloween, by incorporating colors such as chocolate brown and orange throughout your venue.

A Halloween wedding theme does not necessarily have to be held on Halloween either. It could be held the weekend before or after, as long as it is as close to Halloween as possible.

You can easily incorporate the season into your food and beverage offering, by serving a few pumpkin-infused items. Who wouldn’t love sipping on a pumpkin martini during your cocktail hour? Or warming up to a bowl of pumpkin soup served in hollowed out pumpkins?

To costume or not to costume…that is the question. If you do not wish for your guests to dress in full costume, you need to state this on your invitations. Don’t leave them guessing when it comes to your desired dress code for the wedding. When most people hear the words “Halloween wedding”, they automatically assume that they should wear a costume. You really don’t want Aunt Betty to show up dressed as the Bride of Frankenstein, if your event is black tie. It would be horribly embarrassing for Aunt Betty and your formal family photographs will be…well, WEIRD!

Create a warm, romantic ambiance by placing candles, lanterns or uniquely carved jack-o’-lanterns throughout your wedding venue. How awesome would it be to have your monogram or wedding date carved into pumpkins?!

Of course, you can easily tie your theme into your wedding invitations. But why stop there? Carry your theme through to your save the date cards, wedding programs, place cards and menu cards as well.

If you have decided to host a Halloween themed wedding, make sure to plan early! We all know that Halloween stuff goes on sale the day after Halloween. So, you will want to grab all of your Halloween decorations, candles, favors, etc. when they are on clearance a year ahead of time.

Best wishes for a “spooktacular” event!
