Featured Photographer – Fritz Liedtke

Elegant & Beautiful Wedding Photography

Our featured photographer of the week is Fritz Liedtke. For over 20 years, Fritz has been a fine art and documentary photographer. Years of experience has shaped his creative wedding and portrait photography. Fritz has traveled the world covering projects for magazines, agencies, and personal projects. He is based in Portland, Oregon, where he elegantly photographs local weddings.  Fritz also travels world wide to shoot weddings.

Today Fritz has shared Daniel and Danielle Halbert’s wedding with us. The wedding was outdoors in the beautiful wooded setting of her grandparents’ farm in Damascus, Oregon (near Portland). As a graphic designer, Danielle did a beautiful job of planning and designing her dream wedding. She put careful thought into every detail including the setting, the lighting and everything in between. The farm was a great setting for wedding photographs … complete with old trucks and tractors – some rusty and overgrown with ivy – which, of course, were great to have as props for the wedding portraits! Fritz refers to the setting as “a photographer’s playground.”

Fritz: “When Danielle came in for a consultation about her wedding photography and told me she was going to hold her wedding at dusk lit only by candles, I just about jumped out of my seat and begged her to let me photograph it. It turned out I didn’t have to beg her. She was already sold on working with me. In any case, having received negative reactions from other photographers about the candle-lit ceremony idea, she was pretty happy about my enthusiasm.”

“I was enthusiastic not only because it sounded beautiful and exotic, but because I knew I could photograph it well. It turned out that the ceremony was lit by Christmas tree lights strung up in the trees – not candles. But the challenge was that the bride and groom were stationed off-center from the aisle. This meant that in order for me to get a clear shot of them, I had to get down in front somehow. I waited until the cover of prayer–when all eyes were closed–to sneak up front. I sat on the ground with my head one inch from the groom’s mother’s knee. And there I stayed. No tripod, just my camera and me, on the ground. I’m not complaining … the photographs turned out great!”

The wooded setting, the romantic lighting … this really looks like a fairy tale wedding! The combination of Danielle’s design and Fritz’s artful eye have resulted in beautiful and elegant wedding photographs.

Congratulations Mr and Mrs. Halbert on your marriage!

These are very beautiful and creative pictures, I like the effect with the ladies leaning on the cars.
