Try Creating Unique Wedding Favors
Have you ever received a wedding favor that you had no idea what to do with? While it is a little known fact that wedding favors are not mandatory, why not give your guests something that they won’t put away into their ‘wedding favors for which I cannot find any practical use’ drawer?
How About Giving a Wedding Favor That is a Charitable Donation?
When I was planning my wedding, I wanted to give my guests something meaningful…something that meant a lot to me. As I was thinking about this and cleaning out my closet (I was moving..I don’t do this often!), I noticed a small bag sitting in the corner. I opened it and out fell a variety of wedding favor trinkets..paper fans, plastic doves, key chains … all very cute, but none of which I had ever used. As I wondered if my guests would also keep my wedding favors in a bag in the corner of their closet, I decided that I was going to make a donation to a charity in their honor. Volunteering and giving back is something that I do myself and thought a donation would be a great way of honoring my guests. After all, isn’t that the greatest form of appreciation?
Pick a charity that you and your significant other are passionate about. Perhaps you have volunteered for one. Perhaps you work for one! Or maybe there is a cause that has moved you, affected you and touched your heart. Why not spend the money you were going to use on wedding favors to make a donation?

You can explain your donation to your guests with cards placed on each table at the reception. A sample card can read “In your honor, we have made a donation to (name) charity….”. You can even have the cards match your wedding invitations!
So on that special day when two hearts become one, your donation could help educate a child, provide medical relief or even help to make someone else’s dream come true. What a wonderful way to celebrate your own dream coming true!
