Trash the Wedding Dress or Preserve?
There is a somewhat new wedding trend with brides and grooms; this is called ‘Trash the Dress.’ This wide spread phenomenon is a very cool and quirky idea that detaches itself from traditional wedding photography. The idea of ‘Trash the Dress’ is similar to the ‘Day After’ wedding photography session. Instead of taking the normal couple poses in a beautiful scenic background, couples would instead get all dressed up in their bridal attire and take photos in fun and interesting places. Many couples decide to take a “bridal” photo in a graffiti-ed ally way, or an amusement park.
This is such a cool idea and it’s a brilliant way for brides and grooms to add some color in their wedding album. Can you imagine looking through your beautiful wedding album in the years to come and seeing all the traditional white wedding dress with a clean white background photos, and flipping the page to see yourself in your wedding dress against a sea of brightly colored teddy-bears at the county fair? This will be a refreshing new twist to your wedding album, which your family and friends will surely love and remember!
Another twist to ‘Trash the Dress’ is to take photos in a traditional place, like the beach, or a meadow. In this photo session, you will completely TRASH the dress. This means, you are not afraid to get your dress DIRTY! The bride and groom can pose in the ocean at the beach, getting the bride’s dress wet and dirty! Many couples are hesitant on this idea, but many are surprised at some of the beautiful photographs that can come out of these ‘Trash the Dress’ photo-shoots.
Personally, I can see the why brides and grooms would do the ‘Trash the Dress’ photo session. However, after spending so much time and money on getting your special dress, would be willing to destroy your dress? Finding a good dry cleaner is always worth a try, but what happens if you accidentally rip or tear your dress and the damage is irreparable? Would you throw away the thousands of dollars you spent on your wedding dress? Are you the bride who wants to trash and throw away your wedding memorabilia? You may be the keepsake bride, who wants to show and share with your future children the most important dress you ever bought.
An alternative idea is to just have two wedding dresses! Ha! If you want to keep you precious wedding dress … who can blame you? I know I want to keep mine. You can always get another wedding dress, even if it’s a second hand thrift store wedding dress or an inexpensive vintage wedding dress, you can use any old white dress in the ‘Trash the Dress’ photo-shoot. After all, you’re going to be destroying the dress. The dress shouldn’t have to cost a lot of money just to get trashed.
