Is it Different!?

As a single woman, I always admired my married friends and wondered how it felt to be married.  I assumed something had to be different, but I couldn’t put my finger on exactly what it could be?!?!

As an engaged woman, I had those same thoughts, but I still couldn’t put my finger on it.  What was it!?!?!  Was it a good “different”?!?!  Was it a bad “different”?!?!  I didn’t know, all I knew was that it had to be different!

As a married woman, it hit me!  It is different…now I know that this man…who makes me laugh until I cry, who stimulates my intellect, who loves me unconditionally, who has helped strengthen my faith, who is my biggest fan…this man has publicly pledged his love to me and we will spend the rest of our lives loving each other and making wonderful memories together!

Now that is a kind of “different” that I can look forward to!!!

The Wedding Video – Will you watch it?

The wedding video is a topic my fiancé and I have been contemplating for months as we are approaching our wedding day.  The questions that come to mind are:  Will we really watch our wedding video?  Should we save the money and invest it in something else for our reception?  Is it worth it to hire a videographer to capture every single moment of our wedding?  The answer for us – ABSOLUTELY.

We’ve heard both sides – from you’ll never watch it, to you will watch it every anniversary to relive the day you became husband and wife.  After listening to some advice from our friends and family, the one comment that has stuck in my mind is - “your wedding day comes and goes by so fast.”  By having a wedding videographer, he or she may capture moments that you may not have seen.  Videographers also have a unique way of telling your story.  Your wedding video will help you remember how you felt when getting ready, show you and your husband reciting your wedding vows during the ceremony, and give you another glance at your friends and family as they enjoy the wedding reception.

As a bride-to-be, I can already picture the thousands of things that will be running through my mind, from the morning I wake up, to the moment we say “I do,” to the time we leave our reception.  With the months spent planning for the wedding, I can only imagine how hard it will be to treasure every detail and to let it all sink in.  Of course, we’ll have our photos that will help cherish memories of our special day.  But, for us as an added bonus, it will be nice to look back years from now to watch the fairytale that started our new life together.

‘Tie’ it Together with This Groomsmen Gift Idea

I recently wrote about bridesmaid gift ideas, so here’s an idea for gifting the groomsmen—tie the event together with a necktie!

We wanted to give our groomsmen a gift that would keep on giving. Not only would a necktie last for years to come, but they could also wear it with their wedding attire, further “tying” in the colors or theme of the day.

I love the look of the groom, groomsmen and ushers in matching tuxedos or suits with ties of varying patterns and colors. Plaid, paisley, stripes and polka dots are among the unlimited possibilities!

There are so many ways to get creative with this idea, for example, a tropical beach theme like these by Tommy Bahama.

Growing in popularity are weddings that support a charity beloved by the couple, like Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Afraid of mixing and matching? Then use two very similar patterns and alternate them! Or try focusing on just one color!

The sky is the limit, and it works with bow ties too! My groom wore an ivory tie to match his bride. We gave the best man a unique print, and then gave each groomsmen one of two prints. The ushers wore another. This is also a great idea for the fathers or any other men involved in the day!

I had a lot of luck finding ties by perusing various department stores during the few months preceding the event. We put the necktie in their welcome/thank you bags with other trinkets, tools and toiletries for the weekend and beyond. My groom also wrote individual thank you notes to each of them to accompany their bag!

Say “I Do” with Bamboo!

What better way to start a new life together with your significant other than to be surrounded by something that symbolizes longevity, luck, fortune and enlightenment? Bamboo is a great element to sprinkle throughout your wedding. There are lots of ways to incorporate this eco-friendly resource into your special day.

Here are some ideas for how to do so …

Stationery:

The stationery you choose will likely be your guest’s first impression of your wedding day.  Whether your guests realize it or not, your save-the-dates or invitations are the “preview” or “sneak peek” for the theme/color/or recurring elements at the wedding.  Use bamboo right off the bat!

Favors:

Thank your guests and wedding party by giving them a bamboo favor to remember the day!

I love this “Hand in Hand” bamboo salad server set.  You can even personalize the labels!

Now these favors are, by far, my favorite.  Give your wedding guests a lucky bamboo plant!  They are very cute and super easy to take care of.

Lucky bamboo plants come in all shapes and sizes – go with whatever you prefer.  Check out these heart-shaped ones …

Escort Cards:

Another reason I love the lucky bamboo plant favors is because they can double as your escort cards!  Just hang a little tag around them with the name and table number … They look great set up on a table together.  AND it’s an awesome way to welcome your guests to the reception!

You can even add your monogram or directions for taking care of the plant on the other side of the tag.

Centerpieces:

Use bamboo sticks as a base for your flower centerpieces.  Of course you could also use the lucky bamboo plants, again, as centerpieces. The number of bamboo stalks you put together changes the meaning of the plant.  If you are using bamboo to symbolize certain meanings or benefits, you can find a list of what those are here.

As you can probably guess … the bamboo list goes on and on.  You can use it in everything from a bamboo altar to decorations to place settings and silverware!
