Are you looking for a unique way to coordinate your bridesmaids that also allows them to feel comfortable and stand apart from the rest? Check out the dresses made by Ariane Goldman’s twobirds!

The twobirds dress can be wrapped more than 15 ways to accommodate varying body types. It comes in 18 colors and four different lengths.

I came across a twobirds advertisement while flipping through the latest edition of Martha Stewart Weddings.  View a video of the different looks here. If anyone has worn the dress, I would love to hear about it! Goldman’s bridesmaids wore the dress in her wedding, and the website displays some real wedding photos for more ideas.

The company offers “rosettes,” which can be hand-sewn to the bottom hem of the dress. twobirds suggests the rosettes as the perfect adornment for the maid or matron of honor.

Another way to honor and feature your maid of honor is to choose a two-toned dress for her. Or use them for all your bridesmaids to accentuate your colors!

twobirds also makes matching bandeaus for large-busted bridesmaids, wraps for chilly weather and dresses for flower girls.

twobirds is in New York City but ships anywhere in the United States and Canada. The company also has offices in Sydney and London by appointment. The twobirds name comes from their claim that bridesmaids will wear the dress again, hence, “killing ‘two birds’ with one dress.”

Etiquette Emergency: Of Gloves and Gals

Q: I was just wondering, my gloves for my wedding are satin above the elbow and the finger parts are not open. On the wedding day the priest will take off the wedding ring from my right ring finger and place it on my left ring finger. What do I do then? Attend without the gloves then wear them in the reception afterward? Or wear them but then take them off at the time of wearing the ring?

A: You have two choices. If your gloves are thin enough, you can wear the ring over your gloves. Or, wear your gloves for the reception only. Remember, ladies remove their gloves when eating.

Featured Wedding Website – Claire and Alex

Claire and Alex’s site is our featured WeddingWindow.com wedding website of the week. Since February is the month of love, we felt it appropriate to highlight Claire and Alex’s heart-inspired website design. They did a fabulous job assembling helpful information for their guests and organized it beautifully on their website. Congratulations Claire and Alex!Claire and Alex

WeddingWindow.com Website Design: “Celebrity”

1. How has your website been most helpful in planning your wedding?
It’s been a great place to direct people with questions. Now you don’t have to constantly repeat yourself. Guests also loved all the pictures.

2. How did you customize your website?
Photos of myself and my husband, our families and our friends, things to do, vendors I used, blogs I like to visit … everything about my wedding I tried to include. I wanted the site to act like a travel agent for the out of town guests, a concierge with the inside scoop for people looking for the best place to eat and shop.  It was a way for people, that may not know my husband and I very well, to get a chance to learn about us a little bit.

3. Did you customize other elements of your wedding as well? If so, what were they?
Weddings are all about the details … this site was just one of those important details that needs to be done. Its needs to be done right and wedding window was the perfect site. Just about everything was custom for my wedding. I had a vision that made just about everything custom, from the invitations, to the unknown-but-amazing photographer, to the fact that each bridesmaid was allowed to wear their own dress as long as it was black and they felt beautiful in it.

4. What was your favorite feature?
The gift registry section was really easy to navigate. It’s perfect that it links you directly to the website and your complete registry. Guests do not have to worry about typing any information in. I also loved that you could easily customize the site to include everything you want. It was an enjoyable process that I would recommend to any couple as a way to complete the overall success of your wedding. Of all the wedding websites out there wedding window had the most unique designs and clear set-up.

The Name Change Game

So now you are married.  Now what?  As a newlywed, one of the first things you need to tackle is to legally change your last name (if you choose to do so).  You will need to do this even if you choose to hyphenate your last name with his.

Keep in mind that the following steps are a guide and vary slightly from state to state.  For specific instructions, your local courthouse can give you more information.  This will at least give you an idea of what to expect.

MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE - Request a copy of your certified marriage certificate from the Register of Deeds in the County you were married in.  It should arrive in the mail fairly quickly.  This is the document that most places want/need.

SOCIAL SECURITY CARD - Take the marriage certificate and your old drivers license down to the social security office to request a new social security card.  The new card should arrive within a couple of weeks.  For more information, please visit the Social Security Administration website.

DRIVERS LICENSE - Take the new social security card and your marriage certificate to the Department of Motor Vehicles to request a new driver’s license.  Most agencies can issue this on the spot.

* This is just a list to get you started.  Every individual is different!

To avoid multiple trips to and from home it is smart bring along the big three (new drivers license, new social security card and marriage certificate).  In researching this article, I received 20 different responses in what bank needed what.  Some banks and employers need a copy of EVERYTHING while some “mom and pop” employers just need word of mouth confirmation of your new nuptials.  What I am trying to say is that no two businesses or agencies are alike!  It’s better to be prepared to avoid anger and frustration :) Good luck!!

Grooms, Show Your Style!

Most people think that a wedding is “all about the bride.” The fashion focus is mainly on the bride and bridesmaid’s dresses. Well, look out ladies! It is becoming increasingly popular for the groom and his men to show a little personality in their wedding day attire as well. Grooms all over are straying from traditional wedding wear. Some are opting for suits rather than the traditional tux while others are throwing in different elements for a little style and individuality.

Take, for example, the wedding vest.  I love the look of just a vest without the jacket!  It’s perfect for a wedding that is a little less than formal.

Another trend without a jacket – the always classic suspender.

Comfort is key for the wedding party.  Many grooms and their groomsmen are wearing sneakers – even with the tux or dress pants!

If you want funky feet but are in need of a more subtle approach … why not wear fun socks?  They can match the wedding colors, the bride’s shoes or just be plain wild!

Adding a little style or personality can be as simple as wearing bold ties.

Note to Grooms: Don’t be discouraged when it comes to picking out your wedding attire.  Think of interesting ways to pull your personality into your wedding wear.  This day is, of course, about your beautiful bride … but don’t forget, it’s about you too!
