Married … with Dolphins

So I was flipping through “the knot” magazine (Florida, Spring/Summer 2010), and within the first few pages, there was a double truck advertisement of a groom cradling his bride in his arms in the middle of a massive pool. It caught my attention, so I began examining the details. As I looked closer, I realized the couple was surrounded by dolphins. That’s right—dolphins!

At Marineland, you and your mate can get married among dolphins. It’s certainly not for every couple, but I got a kick out of idea! Located in St. Augustine, Fla., the original vision for Marineland began in 1938 as an effort to duplicate the variety of marine life as it exists in the wild for the purpose of filming. In 2006, it became Marineland’s Dolphin Conservation Center, dedicated to fostering the preservation and protection of marine life.

And now you can get married there too! “Exchange vows on the gently sloping beach of our dolphin habitat; include dolphins in your wedding memories and photographs, and dance and delight at the ocean’s edge as the sun sets in the distance.”

Marineland can accommodate 400 guests and has an outdoor event area with protection from the elements. For more information, visit Marineland’s website or call 877-933-3401.

How do you help couples customize their weddings?
Upon my first meeting with each couple, I have them create a three part list with the following columns; “What I Would Love to Have at My Wedding, What I Would Like to Have, What I Don’t Care About”. Within those three columns, I’m able to strategically review with the couple the details down to the icing on the cake and really understand their main goals and how we can taylor their event to perfection.

At what point in the planning process do you typically work with couples?
Ideally I like to begin working with couples after they have become engaged and are just beginning to estimate a nuptial date and source a venue. Since a venue is typically the bulk of their budget, having a planner partner with the couple when facilitating the site selection and negotiations is preferred. We’ve also been approached by couples who have already contracted the venue and vendors and we will be hired for the “day of” to pull all the working parts together along and handle any last minute needs including the on site management for the wedding.

Is there anything else you’d like to share about your business?
The Red Carpet Events is a business that prides itself on remaining behind the scenes and making sure the couple is the undisputed highlight of the joyous day. A wedding shouldn’t be stressful it should be a celebration of commitment and we are here to make that happen flawlessly with grace and elegance.

Featured Photographer: Our Labor of Love

Jesse and Whit of Our Labor of Love are this week’s Macro Monday featured photographers.  This husband and wife team focuses on taking unique wedding photographs that capture real beauty.  Rather than using staged scenery and phony poses, they have a more relaxed approach to wedding photography. Jesse and Whit love to travel, shooting weddings all over the country and are also available to travel internationally for weddings.

Today Our Labor of Love is sharing gorgeous photos from a Hudson Valley wedding.  Emily and Jasen held their wedding at the Mohonk Mountain House.  Although the sun was shy that day, their wedding photos are gorgeous! … Who says you need at bright, sunny day to get beautiful wedding pictures?

Emily: “We couldn’t be happier with the pictures. Jess and Whit were gracious and lovely – blending into the background when you wanted them to, but great fun when we did our solo shoot afterward (something I highly recommend!). Jay and I still talk about the photography parts of the day. My only regret: that I didn’t do a little dance on the boat. I look so stiff!”
