Priscilla and Thread Social – A Perfect Pair!

Being a Boston bride, I have a special place in my heart for Priscilla of Boston. While I did not walk down the isle in one of their gowns (my runner up was from the Vineyard collection, however), I had a fantastic experience in their Newbury Street flagship store. The gowns are gorgeous and well made, and come in styles to suit almost any bride and any budget. And if that weren’t enough, the service was excellent.

So you can imagine how thrilled I was to hear that Priscilla has teamed up with Thread Social to create a collection of party dresses that would look fabulous at any wedding (or other event, for that matter). You may already know the pieces turned out by Beth Blake and Melissa Akey – their fashion-forward bridal line Thread consistently turns out fresh and fun dresses for modern brides and their attendants. And of course, it’s hard to miss the glamorous and youthful looks Thread Social is so famous for.

Real Wedding: Lisa and John

Today we have a breathtaking wedding sent to us by Nadine from Weddings in Tuscany.  Nadine helped to plan Lisa and John’s destination Tuscany wedding and was happy to share the details with us!

Nadine: “When we first started communicating with the gorgeous laid-back couple, Lisa and John, we knew instantly that their wedding was going to be incredibly fun and we were so excited to get started on the planning. Lisa wanted a relaxed, intimate, natural and fun feel to her wedding with all inspiration to come from the natural beauty of the Tuscan landscape. They chose a rustic stone farmhouse in the Chianti as their location for their wedding and accommodations for themselves and their guests. The Chianti area has so much natural beauty, only a little adornment was needed. All the flowers were native to the area and all the food was market fresh, local and organic and the wine was made at the farmhouse using the grapes of the surrounding vineyard.”

Lisa and John had a civil ceremony which took place in the town hall of the hilltop town of Carmignano. They also had a symbolic ceremony among the olive groves of the farmhouse where the reception was held.

Nadine: “Lisa and her bridesmaids carried bright sunflowers in full bloom, chocolate gerberas with a mix of native foliage, stems wrapped with a chestnut silk ribbon, and the ceremony florals continued the profusion of colorful sunflowers, mixed with coral roses and native foliage in cone shaped baskets. The table centerpieces were simple and elegant vases filled with sunflowers, coral roses and lavender.”

Etiquette Emergency: Twice is Nice

Q: I am getting remarried in the fall. I am Jewish and have 2 teenage daughters. He has no children. Would it be more appropriate to have my 18 year old be my maid of honor or a friend? Also how can we involve both of my daughters?

A: Mazel tov on your upcoming wedding. Yes, there is a place in your wedding for your daughters. For a second wedding, the etiquette states that the ceremony is a bit more subdued. Since your parents have already walked you down the aisle once, you can choose to have your daughters give you away and act as your attendants. Once they have escorted you, they should stand either both on your side, or one on either side to balance the attendants for the ceremony.

For the Bed Hog in Your Life

There’s usually one in every relationship — a bed hog!  Well, finally there is a solution for couples who are constantly playing tug-of-war with the bedsheets.  Bed Hog sheets!  These whimsical “His & Hers” sheets have a line right down the center so you can see who’s on which side. Bed Hog sheets were created by real life couple Sue and Patrick Sweet, as a playful way to see if someone was sleeping on more than their fair share of the bed.  You can read their entire story on BedHog.com

Their “His & Hers” sheet sets make a great gift for weddings, bridal showers, or anniversaries. They make a particularly good second anniversary gift, as the second anniversary is traditionally the “cotton anniversary.” Both the flat and fitted sheets are reversible, so partners can choose which side to sleep on.  I actually own a set myself and absolutely LOVE them!

I looked up the Urban Dictionary definition of Bed Hog (shown below) and found it to be not only hilarious, but pretty darn accurate:

“The bed hog takes over the entire bed, either shoving you up against the wall so you can’t even breathe, or pushing you off the side.  If they don’t hog the bed, they hog the blankets, rolling up like they were wrapped in a cocoon, leaving you blanketless and shivering.”

Sweet dreams!
