Vendor Interview: Bar Candy

We’ve all heard about the oh-so-trendy candy bars couples have been incorporating into their weddings as part of the desserts or as favors.

Well, here is a new concept … Rather than a Candy Bar, why not have Bar Candy incorporated into your wedding celebrations!?  Today’s vendor interview is with Liz Green, the amazing woman behind Bar Candy!   … I know you’re probably thinking - What IS Bar Candy!? Well, hold on to your seats! I just about fell out of mine when I heard about these delicious treats!

Take it from Liz …  “Bar Candy® patented edible champagne/martini glasses are made from the highest quality Belgium chocolate. The glass is a cross between an elegant champagne flute, and a sophisticated martini glass. Chocolate edible varieties range from dark, milk, white, and white chocolate marbled. The white chocolate can be dyed most colors. The sky’s the limit when it comes to matching color, theme, flavor, etc. Whether you choose to use Bar Candy® for champagne (most popular), or use them for specialty cocktails, Bar Candy® will steal the show, as they are the first of their kind, offering a parade of color and elegance”

Is your mouth watering yet?  Not only can these Edible glasses hold your tasty beverages, they can also be used as decadent desert cups! Here’s a little more from Liz about what she does and how she got started …

How long have you been in business?
Bar Candy has officially been in business for about a year and a half.

What inspired you to start your business?
I was originally a mixologist, and became inspired to invent something unique to house specialty cocktails and champagne. It took 3 and half years to develop and perfect these high quality Belgium chocolate glasses, which are completely mess and melt free.

Tell us why you think your business is successful and unique.
I think Bar Candy is successful because there is nothing else like it. I also think that brides love luxury, beauty and chocolate, and this product encompasses all three.

The edible glasses are perfect for a champagne toast or an added addition to a dessert table. They also act as a blank canvas, as you can add any color cocktail, or rim the glasses in any color glitter or flavor to match color schemes. The white chocolate can also be dyed any color. Garnishes like edible flowers, rock candy swizzles, strawberries, etc. can be added for extra fun and elegance.

What is your company’s philosophy when working with wedding couples?
My philosophy is to work closely with the bride and groom to find out what their palate is for a particular cocktail ( I have invented over 100 original cocktails to compliment the glasses) or if their taste is more geared towards champagne. Once we establish that, we discuss if they would like them tray passed, if they want to substitute for a dessert, use for a unique champagne toast or a chocolate champagne bar. We then discuss if they want to rim the white chocolate glasses with colors to match wedding colors, or if they want the simple, yet elegant dark chocolate, milk or marbled.

At what point in the planning process do you typically work with couples?
Brides and grooms contact me at all points of their planning. Sometimes at the beginning of this process, or even 2 weeks prior to their date. I ask for a couple of weeks advance notice, as I ship nationwide, and the chocolate is made fresh that day and shipped overnight.

These edible encasements come in a wide variety of flavors too. Flavors for Cake-tinis, Candy-tinis, Cofee-tinis, Chocolate-tinis and more!! Hop on over to the Bar Candy website for a list of all of the mouth-watering choices …

Picture This!

wedding photos

You just got done with a once-in-a-life-time wedding! During which, you noticed your wedding guests snapping away a ton of photos on their cameras. Photography has become more popular then ever. With consumers able to purchase a their own DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex) camera these days, you never know who might have a great shot.

Problem: How do you get a copy … and with minimum effort on your part?

wedding pictures

Solution: Make your wedding guests WANT to send you their great wedding photos.

Method: Inform your wedding guests that you and your new spouse will be selecting the best photos for a prize! There are multiple categories to win a prize (funniest, most romantic, best kiss of the night, best first dance etc.) It is up to you whether or not to advise your wedding guests before hand what the prizes will be or if you would like the prize to be revealed after the wedding. The grand prize will be ‘over-all best picture of the night’ (whichever category you would like to set it as).

Of course the professional photographer you hired is not eligible to play (Sorry! that would be cheating right?). Create a deadline for all wedding guests entering the contest. For example all wedding guests must summit a copy of their photos to you no later than 2 weeks after the wedding. Guests should be able to send a CD/DVD disk or upload their photos to you using photo websites such as or picasaweb.google.com or www.flickr.com Once all photos have been submitted, you can upload all of them to a photo website so guests can admire each other’s photography and share memories of your lovely wedding day. As for voting … It is your choice to have a poll voting system, a panel of people that will decide, or you an your new spouse can be the judges (This is where the fun part begins)!

Pick prizes however you like, this can range from gift cards, cash prizes, or even an iPad! Don’t be surprise to have 3000+ pictures of your special day within 2 weeks after your wedding.

Happy Planning :)

Featured Photographer: Brilliant Imagery

I’m so excited to share the fabulous Rachel Garcia with you today!  Rachel is the main photographer of Brilliant Imagery, a boutique studio that focuses on wedding and engagement photography. Here’s a little about Rachel and her biz …

Rachel: “Brilliant Imagery is a Boutique studio, photographing only a limited number of weddings a year. That way we are able to really focus on and become come friends with each of our clients. The ‘we’ of Brilliant Imagery consists of myself, Rachel, being the main photographer, Carmen, as a second photographer and right hand wo-man. And Ashley, our manager of all things business. (She keeps me sane.) Having Ashley and Carmen’s support in all this helps me balance my family life and my love of weddings. To me, wedding photography is the most challenging and rewarding kind of photography there is. I get to document and be part of the most precious day two people can have. I can’t think of a better job and I’ve never been happier.”

Below are Rachel’s photos from Lauren and Mitch’s post marriage engagement and wedding sessions. …

Rachel: “My style is a mix of photojournalism and dramatic fashion. I love funky, authentic, raw imagery. With every couple I photograph I try to find that special, unique thing about them that makes their relationship sparkle. Then I bring that element out in images. With Lauren and Mitch it was their love of art and their ability to make laughter beautiful.”

Mitch and Lauren eloped in Vegas some months ago.  At the time, they hadn’t had any engagement photos taken.  Rachel, set out with the couple to Red Rock Canyon (outside of Vegas) to do a little post wedding engagement shoot …

You Had Me At Hello!

If you are planning a seated dinner wedding reception, escort card tables are one of the first things your guests will see when they arrive.  Escort card tables serve several purposes depending on the flow of your reception.  They are a great way to identify what meal option your guests have chosen in order to assist the servers with the main course.  They help with the flow of conversation at the tables as all guests seated at the same table may not know each other.  They also help to identify any guests who have not shown up or who could possibly be running late (your coordinator will appreciate this information).  Place cards can also serve as wedding favors for your guests.

If you are considering escort cards for your reception, here are some beautiful inspirational photos of gorgeous tables displays …

If you are a modern bride who wants just a touch of added surprise, this escort card table with cards nestled in blades of grass is a beautiful option.

For the fun and colorful bride, you can use coasters as escort cards and have them hanging around the rim of large martini glasses.

You can spice up your escort card tables with beautiful, ornate floral arrangements that will serve as a conversation piece as people look for their names.

Photo frames are a great way to combine your escort cards and wedding favors.  You can include a personal note to all your guests, so that when they open the back of their frame they will have a beautiful note from you that they will always remember.

Fanning out your escort cards in alphabetical order on round tables will help the flow of your wedding guests as they search for their names.

If you have a large escort card table, using flowers, jewels or candy as fillers around the base, will aid in your table appearing more full.
