Kelsey: “These two are hilarious. So in love and such a pleasure to work with. They also have one of the most humorous and sweet engagement stories: playing ninja hunter bear to settle a debate (each turns back to back to assume their character, then turns around to to see who wins the battle – hunter beats bear, etc.) So Robyn turns around, in quite a good scary bear representation to find Mike on one knee. Aww. The shoot itself was done at Robyn’s Dad’s farm out past Mill Bay. What a wonderful landscape! Right on the water, and don’t get me started on the barn attic- they had everything in there, I felt like a kid at a candy shop while I was putting things together to create (in my mind) our Hollywood movie set. Too much fun! Congrats you two!”

The Candy Bar … Never Gets Old!

I don’t know about you, but I LOVE wedding reception candy bars.  It is a trend that seems to have stuck around for a while.  I’m not surprised … you can almost never go wrong with a candy bar.  As long as you have enough variety and some of the standard favorites, candy bars are sure to be a hit at your wedding reception.  Here are some beautiful pictures of some amazing candy bars …

I absolutely love the sculptures that resemble chocolate and the bark used on these candy buffet tables.  I never would have thought to use small pieces of tree bark for a candy buffet display, but after seeing it, it really works and it actually looks quite amazing.

As if the candy wasn’t eye catching enough, these centerpieces are absolutely stunning and can be seen from across the room.  I guess that’s a good thing, because you really do want all your guests to eat up every last piece of candy so that it won’t be waiting for you when you return from your honeymoon.

Put your personal flare and sense of style into your candy buffet table.  Utilize damasks , feathers, any of the current trends or just elements that you can and will enjoy… after all, it is your wedding and you have to enjoy your candy buffet as well!

Soft pinks, yellows and oranges are perfect to incorporate in your candy buffet table.  I love these colors and they make an amazing combination for your wedding day decor.  Never be afraid to use color, especially on a table full of candy!

Etiquette Emergency: Receiving Lines

wedding receiving line

Q: My finance and I are paying for the wedding ourselves. We are debating having a receiving line. If we do, who should be part of it? Should our parents be included?

A: The receiving line is two fold. The first purpose is for those hosting the wedding to welcome the guests to the reception. The second is for the families of the bride and groom to be able to meet and greet guests. Even though the bride and groom are hosting the wedding in this case, it would be lovely and gracious to have your parents also in the receiving line.

The typical order of the receiving line is:

  • Bride’s Mother, Groom’s Mother, Bride, Groom
  • Sometimes the fathers also stand in line. When this is the case, the fathers follow the Groom: Bride’s Father and Groom’s Father
  • Occasionally, attendants will be included after the fathers: Maid/Matron of honor, and Bridesmaids. Rarely do ushers stand in a receiving line.

But do not feel obligated to “stand” on ceremony. You may arrange a receiving line which suits you and your wedding.

French Fry Bars – “I’m Lovin’ It!”

Let it be known right now…I LOVE french fries!  Any and all french fries. I am not proud of it, but at least I can admit it.  So…I was tickled pink to learn that french fry bars are now being featured at many wedding receptions today.  Brilliant!  I mean…who doesn’t love a french fry?  Fries are fun, easy to eat and they soak up alcohol.  Bonus!  You can easily “class” up your french fry bar by offering a variety of potatoes, toppings and sauces for dipping.  Think sweet potato fries…tossed with Parmesan cheese and truffle oil…dipped in a garlic aioli sauce or wasabi mayonnaise.  Delish!
