The term “Vintage “ has come to signify designs that were popular in the first part of the 20th Century. The term ‘antique’ generally defines an object being over 100 years old, the terms Antique or Vintage may refer to engagement rings that go as far back as the Georgian period (1714 – 1830) and includes Victorian Rings (1837-1901) Art Nouveau (1890–1905), Edwardian Rings (1901-1915) and Art Deco Rings (1920-1930s). These two terms loosely refer to jewels created before the Second World War.

Each era came with its own design sensibility and meanings which not only influence jewelry but other decorative arts and architecture.
