Ribbon Boards and French Memo Boards are the perfect way to get your escort cards up, off the table while adding a little verticality to the mix. And the best part is, after the wedding you could actually USE these again in your office for organizing papers or in your guest room for photo display. I have made these boards before and offer two short tutorials on the bottom of the post. Ribbon Board DIY’s
Horizontal Ribbons Stripes Style:
(This is the easier of the two styles to make)

Foam board (1/4 to 1/2 inch thick)
Ribbons
Fabric large enough to stretch over foam board
Staple Gun
Scissors
Hot Glue (optional)
Batting (enough to cover foam board) (optional)

Directions:

  1. Measure fabric (and batting if you are using it) to fit around board with at least 1-2 inches to spare around edges
  2. Staple batting to back of board (if using it) and then staple fabric to back of board-make sure to make nice corners and cut off excess fabric
NOTE: if you want some puff and flex to the board, use batting, if you want it to be totally flat, do not use batting.
  3. Line up ribbons in horizontal parallel lines across board and staple to back of board. Cut off excess.
  4. After cutting off excess fabric, hot glue can help to better hold down any bumps or problem areas
  5. Your board is now ready for display in on a table against a wall or in a table easel. You may also wish to adhere/staple a hanger to the back for display on a wall.

French Memo Board Criss-cross Style:
(this one is a little bit more complicated)

Supplies:

Foam board (1/4 to 1/2 inch thick)
Ribbons
Fabric large enough to stretch over foam board
Staple Gun
Scissors
Hot Glue
Buttons (at least the diameter/thickness of the ribbon)
Batting (enough to cover foam board)

Directions:

  1. Measure fabric and batting to fit around board with at least 1-2 inches to spare around edges
  2. Staple batting to back of board and then staple fabric to back of board-make sure to make nice corners and cut off excess fabric
NOTE: You HAVE to use batting for this style board
  3. Line up ribbons in a criss-cross pattern and staple to back of board. Cut off excess.
  4. After cutting off excess fabric, hot glue can help to better hold down any bumps or problem areas
  5. Staple each intersection (where the ribbons overlap forming an “X”)
  6. Glue a button over the staple in all of the “X”‘s
  7. Your board is now ready for display in on a table against a wall or in a table easel. You may also wish to adhere/staple a hanger to the back for display on a wall.
