Once engaged, many of the crafty people out there jump right into diy mode … Yipee! I’m getting married! I will make EVERYTHING for my wedding!!!

I understand how easy it is to fall into the make-it-myself-mindset. I often suffer from this in everyday life – Oooh, I love that! I want it! Should I buy it? … Wait a sec, I bet I could MAKE that! (I tend to think this even when there is no possible way my little fingers could create anything that resembles the current object of my affection … shame, shame)

Anywho, back to the matter at hand … While I’m not saying it is impossible to diy everything for your wedding … I do think that sometimes people, myself included, need a REALITY CHECK when it comes to diy projects. With the long list of things to be done for your wedding day, it may be wise to choose just a few DIY projects to focus on and get the rest of your items from other resources (if you’re into handmade, Etsy is a great place to start!).

I’ve seen this chart show up on a number of different blogs and find it very useful. Basically, what it comes down to is this – Do you actually have the skills, time and money to complete your project?

If you’re still planning on an entire DIY wedding, great! You have my full support! … Who doesn’t love a crafty challenge? Before you start, however, I suggest that you run each project through the chart above to make sure you have the time and budget necessary to successfully accomplish all of your goals.

Now … I believe you have some work to do? Have fun :)
