Hi, I’m Danielle, a full-time student from the Canadian prairies. I am planning a fun, budget-friendly wedding to the man of my dreams, and blogging about the ups and downs along the way. There will be some obstacles: my fiancee is a proud member of the Canadian Forces and will be deploying to Afghanistan in the fall, and we expect to be posted to a new city (on the other side of the country) sometime next spring or summer…right around the time of the wedding! I’m excited to share and learn and be inspired and I hope that you’ll join in on the fun!

Personal Touches For Family and Friends

I have read a couple of blogs about how to add elements to your wedding that acknowledge a loved one that has passed on. There are actually some really beautiful ideas out there. But what about the loved ones that are attending the wedding? Make the wedding a personal experience for your guests as well by finding ways to incorporate them into the day.

How about a personalized note at each place setting? This might be too time consuming if you have a very large wedding, but a short note explaining how much you care about them, recounting a fun memory between you, or describing how happy you are that they were able to attend would be a lovely surprise for your guest. Perhaps something like this with a little handwritten note tucked into the napkin?

For a fun and personal touch, think up some funny or interesting stories about your guests, especially stories about the two of you together. You could have them displayed at a special spot at your venue or just have them written on cards at the tables. This should guarantee some laughs and could also be a great icebreaker for guest at tables where not everyone knows each other.

Find out your guests favorite songs and make sure the dj plays them. Especially songs that will get them up on the dance floor! (YMCA anyone?)

How about adding a photo gallery of family and friends? You could include wedding photos of grandparents, aunt & uncles, friends, etc. for a touching display.

If you have a few VIPs you want to feel extra special (maybe siblings or the maid of honor and best man for example) why not create a signature drink with their favorite type of alcohol and name it after them?

With a little bit of creative thinking you can find lots of memorable ways to make your guests feel just as special as you do on your big day!

Reusing Wine Bottles: Eco-Friendly DIYs

My fiancée and I are pretty big wine drinkers. We’re also fairly lazy which means we have plenty of empty wine bottles piling up in the recycling area. So, all of these dusty bottles got me wondering how I could reuse them in a fun way for our wedding. I love reusing items we already have at home because not only is it budget friendly (umm…can you get any more budget friendly than free?!?), it’s also eco-friendly. As it turns out, there are plenty of ways to put these bottles to good use!

Check out this DIY Wine Bottle Torch. I would love to do a freestanding version! (click the image to get to the tutorial)

What about using them as favors? Fill them up with hand soap, dish soap, olive oil, or just about anything you could think of and add the right lid. You could paint them or decorate them in a million different ways to suit your wedding colors or theme.

With a little ingenuity you can usually find ways to reuse items around the house for your wedding. I am absolutely going to try out those torches! What about you – will you be reusing at your wedding?
