Jacqueline Rose

I am a future bride. I eat, sleep, and breathe wedding details. I have been to probably 15 weddings in my lifetime and now it is my turn. I am simply looking for an unconventional, memorable, and beautiful wedding. Is that too much to ask? I don’t think so either and that is why I thought I’d share my journey with you!

A Red and White Winter Wedding

If I were having a winter wedding, it would be red and white. However, I would do things a little differently.  Here are some of my favorite ideas for a red and white winter wedding …

I have seen a lot of wintery weddings where the bride and groom are both in white. I love the idea of keeping the groom in white with a red cummerbund.

To change it up a little, the bridesmaids could be in white dresses with red shoes and the bride could be in red!

Classic looking bouquets of red and white are always beautiful.

Using cranberries as part of the centerpieces as well as candles will give a romantic look.

The cake could be white with red accents and decorated with holly.

I hope this helps with winter brides!

When You Wish Upon a Star with a Budget

Disney Themed Wedding Ideas for all Budgets

With your budget and pseudo guest list in tow, you can now look for the spot. Of course, everyone I knew assumed that I was going to get married in Disney World especially since that’s where we got engaged. Believe me, I have been researching such a wedding since I knew it was possible.

Disney has an infinite amount of possibilities for future brides. You can do your nuptials at one of the hotels with the theme parks in the background. You can say, “I do” in one of the theme parks. Cinderella’s coach can carry you down Main Street. Mickey and Minnie (or any of the characters) can make an appearance at your reception. You can even stay in Cinderella’s castle! (It only has ONE hotel room.) Disney even has a bridal collection!

If you are planning to wed at WDW or Disneyland, then visit the Disney Weddings website. For big weddings, they have the option between the Wishes Collection, which is more traditional and the Couture Collection. The Disney team wedding planners do everything, all you have to do is pick what you want.

If your dream is a wish that your heart makes but your wallet can’t match up then you can choose the Escape Collection, which is for more intimate affairs. However, you are going to have to keep it to your closest friends and/or family because you can only have twenty people (including you and your fiancé).

Looking to have a Disney affair without the entire Disney atmosphere? Try out the Disney Cruise line.

Not enough of the Mouse for you? How about a Mad Hatter Tea Party for your bridal shower?

Now if you know anything about the admission price for the theme parks of Disney, getting married there comes with a pretty hefty price tag. The more Disney you add into it, the heavier the tag.

In fact, the price was the only deterring factor for me. However, I have found ways to incorporate my favorite memories from my favorite company. In the Disney parks, there is phenomenon called “Hidden Mickeys”.

According to www.hiddenmickeys.org, “A Hidden Mickey is an image of Mickey Mouse concealed in the design of a Disney attraction (ride, resort, etc…). “ So I have incorporated this theme into my wedding. There will also be a not so hidden Mickey and Minnie figurine … I highly recommend looking into Disney themed cake toppers!

There is an embossed Mickey ears on the envelope of my invitation. I am thinking of incorporating a hidden Mickey at every table; however, I haven’t decided what it is going to be yet, and I don’t want to take all of the fun out of finding them for my guests!

Florida Dreams of Fall

Wonderful Fall Theme Wedding Ideas

I love fall… it is my favorite time of the year. If I didn’t live in South Florida, I would get married on a fall day when all of the leaves are changing color.

The guests would get their place cards on pumpkins because Erik and I used to love the pumpkin patch in Schaumburg…

The centerpieces would be cornucopias filled with flowers and surrounded by tea light candles. The wedding would be in late October or early November on a brisk fall evening.

My menu would be a Thanksgiving feast inspired feast:

Hors D’oeuvres: Mushrooms Caps with Sage Stuffing, Brie en Croute topped with a cranberry and walnut relish, Crostini with pumpkin seed pesto

First Course: Butternut Squash Ravioli with a clove infused cream sauce

Main Course: Turkey and Ham with Gravy served on the side. Accompanied by green beans almondine and rosemary garlic smashed potatoes.

Instead of a wedding cake, I would have a wedding pies including pumpkin, apple, and pecan pie!

A close friend of mine got married in Boston and here are some of her fall wedding creations … I loved her incorporation of the cranberries. Her favors were yummy candied apples. She’s so clever!

Money Talks …

Establishing a Wedding Budget: Who Pays for What?

So you’ve got the ring insured (check), the date (check) and an organization tool (check plus). Now, you need to decide what size wedding you and your future spouse want. This is important because the size of your wedding will help you determine your budget and the location.

Once you have an idea of how many guests you want to share your day with you, you need to figure out a budget. What is great about the organization book, website, or coordinator is that they usually have some sort of list of what a wedding consists of and what you should plan for in your budget. On WeddingWindow.com, they have a great budget tracker that I have found very useful. It starts with a general number in each category and you can put in deposit amounts, due dates, and email reminders. It is a very helpful tool.

I would recommend starting with going over each budget item with your fiancé and say out loud, “I would never spend more than $______ on flowers or music or a dress I only wear for eight hours.” Then add it all up and that is what your wedding will cost you. Don’t like the final number? Go back to your items and adjust until you are comfortable with the amounts.

wedding etiquette advice

eHow.com

This is ultimately what is going to set the tone for your big day and unfortunately is the most taboo of all etiquette websites/books. There are 21.1 millions hits for the word combination of “wedding etiquette who pays for what” in Google. It is not an easy conversation to have, let alone having it with your recently divorced parents.

Traditionally the bride’s father is expected to shell out the cash when it comes to the wedding. However, with families being so diverse these days, tradition is more commonly being overthrown.

TipsWedding.BlogSpot.com

Before speaking with our parents, Erik and I planned on paying for the entirety of the wedding ourselves. I think it is best this way because if we do receive help, monetary or other, it will be a pleasant surprise rather than assuming it’ll be taken care of and come to find that it is not. This has actually worked in our favor because we have had a parent decide to pay for the photographer while another parent wrote us a check for a generous amount and my grandmother paid for my wedding dress.

Although a lot of etiquette websites tell the couple not to ask for money, Erik and I sat down with each parent. We explained to them that they were not under any obligation to contribute anything but we would graciously accept any help they were willing to offer.

It was a difficult conversation to have because we had to hear from both sets of parents something along the lines of “well I’m not going to pay for so and so to enjoy the wedding when they did this or that during the divorce …”

The key here is to be patient and don’t plan a wedding that is out of your means. If you receive help from a family member, consider yourself lucky! I know I do.

Getting Organized!

Wedding Planning Made Easy

After you get your ring insured and decide on a date, get something to organize yourself. I bought a wedding planning book and signed up for a Wedding Window website.

Wedding Planning Book

The book, Easy Wedding Planner Organizer and Keepsake, is great! I bought so many wedding magazines in the first few engagement months and would tear out pictures of dresses, flowers and centerpieces which I would stick in the folders of the book. It is a binder as well so I can add receipts and copies of checks. It also has a place for business cards. You’d be surprised how many people “dabble” in things and want your wedding to be their starting off point!

Wedding Organization Website

Wedding Organization with the Help of a Wedding Website

In addition to buying a wedding organizer book, I signed up for a wedding website on WeddingWindow.com. A mutual friend used the site for her wedding and I thought it was great to have a customized website that I could design myself without having to actually build the entire thing. Since then, I have used my Wedding Window site for almost everything! The best parts of the website are the planning tools.

My favorite tool, in particular, is the checklist. I love lists because I feel I have accomplished something whenever I put that little check by the completed item. At first glance, the list may look a little overwhelming because it has a lot of items. However, this initial list is a very helpful starting point and you can then customize the list by taking things off or adding them on to fit your personal needs. I have to admit that seeing the red font when something is overdue can be daunting, but if need be … I simply change the due date! A lot more goes into a wedding than I originally expected. The planning tools that I have access to from my Wedding Window website have really helped me to keep track of all of the unexpected ideas and plans.

Now, you may not like lists. In fact, I know people who avoid lists all together. The truth of the matter is if you’re not organized, your wedding is going to become more stressful as the day approaches. Please take note that I said organized, not controlling. Hopefully, you’ll decide on your organizer pretty quickly because you know your own style and you know what will work best for you. If by chance, you know you can’t organize your closet let alone your own wedding … you may want to think about hiring a wedding coordinator!
