Michelle joined Wedding Window in 2009 and has been drooling over stylish weddings ever since. Head over heels for custom touches and handmade details, she is always on the lookout for the little goodies that make weddings unique.

With a degree in Art and a love for craft, Michelle revels in beautiful design and, of course, is delighted with anything DIY!  With this particular soft-spot for the handmade, she looks forward to sharing her favorite finds and fun projects with you in her DIY posts.

She is a hometown girl at heart with a love for travel. While she enjoys exploring new places, she is happy to stay nested in coastal New England. On any given day Michelle can be found snuggled on the couch with a good book, cruising around on a mini adventure with her fella, sitting on the floor getting messy with a craft project or enjoying time with family and close friends.

Among her favorite things are dark chocolate and potato chips, her little pooch, the ocean (from the shore… shark week has certainly left its mark), mustard yellow, even numbers, fun socks and really good hugs. Oh, and food. Italian food. Splitting a delicious dish and a bottle of red with her beau… She loves that too.

DIY Beaded Earrings in 5 Minutes!

I love to DIY!! However, due to time constraints and lack of attention for more than a short period of time… I need my projects to be quick and easy with immediate results.  Seriously, if a project has a long prep time, a ridiculously long list of materials or takes an outrageous amount of time to complete, there is a good chance that at some point along the way, I’m not a happy camper.  (Can I get a witness??)  And don’t even get me started on what happens if a project is so time consuming that I miss a meal!  I get quite cranky when hungry!  Of course any angst I feel is whisked away as soon as I see my finished result, but… Ok, I think I’m getting a little off subject here.

The point I’m trying to make is that I aim to share projects that can be done in one sitting and can be done by ANYONE!  Well, probably not babies… but you get what I’m sayin’ right?  I may stray from these rules here and there, but basically that is what I’m all about.  All this chit chat brings us to today’s DIY project! Yahoo!

 easy diy earrings

Today I will show you how to make super cute earrings in 5 minutes!! It may even take you less!  Warning: Once you see how easy these are to make, you just might go on an earring making rampage.  I may or may not be speaking from experience…

Materials
Beads
Earring Hooks
Head Pins
Pliers

Step 1: Stack ‘em Up! - Choose the order of your beads and stack them on a head pin leaving the top quarter empty.

Step 2: Bend & Pinch - Using your pliers, bend the empty end of the pin to make a loop.  Pinch tight.

Step 3: Hook it - Use your pliers and pull out the bottom of the earring hook.  Loop your earring pin onto the bottom of the hook and pinch tight with the pliers to keep in place.

Step 4: Repeat - Follow steps 1-3 to make your second earring.  Then, you’re done!!  Like I told you, piece of cake!

Now, ladies and gentlemen… Let the earring making rampage begin!  Or, just make a few pairs for your bridesmaids or any other ladies involved in your wedding as a thank you gift!

If you’re giving these earrings as a gift, presentation is always important!  You can easily make pretty cards to hang the earrings from if you have cardstock or craft paper around.  All you need to do is cut out a rectangle of your craft paper big enough to showcase your earrings.  My earrings were getting lost with just craft paper so I added a layer of white cardstock to make the earrings pop!  Just poke two holes with a needle and hang your earrings! (The cards may add another minute or two onto your project)

Now sit back and enjoy the commentary… “Oh Beautiful!”  … “Where did you buy these?” … “No, you MADE these??” … and so on and so on.

Wedding Photo Shoot: Crystal & Jake

Crystal and Jake have been married for 8 years and just recently got the chance to work with Melissa McFadden Photography to redo their wedding photo shoot!

Melissa:I’ve known Crystal for several years, and while she has been happily married for over 8 years, I knew that she wasn’t in love with her original wedding photos. So, when the opportunity came up for me to help teach a wedding workshop and bring in my own models, I knew just who to ask! With the chance to dream up her perfect wedding look and do some portraits with the love of her life, she pulled together a look almost completely from second hand stores (only the shoes and veil were new!). The color red was a tie-in from their original wedding, but this shoot was more of a ‘chapter 2′ of their wedding — a visual representation of a vow renewal.

Fave Finds: Pantone Palettes in Your Makeup!!

I don’t know about you but as Spring and Summer roll around and the weather gets warmer, I get a new boost of energy and want to revitalize my world with color! And when it comes to color… the first place I turn to is Pantone.  So, of course I was thrilled when the color experts at Pantone teamed up with the makeup experts of Sephora!

This week I came across the Sephora + Pantone Universe limited edition collection in tangerine tango (the color of the year).  The site even  has a shade finder that helps you to “find your way to wear the color of the year” by selecting your features! Here are a few of my personal faves…
