The Fifty Nifty Project

I recently became aware of an incredible humanitarian project that I wanted to share with all of you.  The Fifty Nifty project was the brainchild of Jonny and Michelle Hoffner, a husband + wife photography team, by the name of Paper Antler.  Their goal is to photograph 50 weddings, in 50 states, within 50 weeks, and raise $50,000 to support victims of human trafficking.  If you are getting married in 2012…. you, too, can participate!  Please watch the below video or visit their website to learn more about the project.

All funds raised will be given to She Dances, a non-profit organization, whose mission is to provide holistic restoration for young girls who have been trafficked and sexually exploited.  She Dances recently opened a safe home in Tegucigalpa, Honduras where young girls are now experiencing freedom and healing.  The $50,000 raised will go entirely to sustaining the home in Honduras for one year or will allow She Dances to open a new safe home in another place of need.

$1,000 will be deducted from every wedding photography package and donated directly to She Dances from the couple, so as to personally connect them with the work being done to fight human trafficking.  Equally important, it will mobilize a nationwide collaboration and campaign to help those who are being exploited, through the raising of funds and awareness.

Below are the dates they already have booked for 2012. If you don’t see your date listed, that means they are available and waiting with open arms.  All you need to do is give them a jingle (612.568.7480) or send them a piece of electronic mail to get the ball rolling.

Friday Funny

Happy Friday!  We all know how stressful planning a wedding can be. That’s certainly not news to any of you!  But, it’s really important to schedule breaks from the planning process every now and again.  It can help you gain some much needed perspective on the wedding.  When it really comes down to it…your wedding is about bringing two people together.   Everything else is optional.

So, today I want you to take a 2 minute break from the stress of wedding planning and have a little laugh.  Ok?  This hilarious video clip, brought to you by the folks over at The Knot and WeddingChannel.com, reminds us all not to take ourselves too seriously.

Enjoy!

Frieda & Nellie Bracelets

Lovelies, I want to show you the coolest bracelets I have literally ever seen! No joke…you really must check them out!  Remember those friendship bracelets we all made when we were tweens?  Well, Frieda & Nellie has taken the friendship bracelet to a whole new level by adding vintage jewels and baubles.  Brilliant!  Each piece is handmade and one-of-a-kind.  Their bracelets range in price from $40 – $300.

I just ordered a “Make a Wish” bracelet for myself and cannot wait to get it!  I will seriously be checking my mailbox every five minutes until it arrives.  The story behind the “Make a Wish” bracelet is that you are supposed to tie your bracelet in a bow or a knot…make a wish…and when your bracelet falls off your wish comes true!  Yeah, sounds really cool in theory…however, I’m pretty sure that I would sob uncontrollably if my new bracelet just fell off!  I mean, I did just spend $40 for it and I would really like to wear it more than once.  Am I wrong, here?

Anyway, enough of my jabbering…shall we take a look at some of their fabulous bracelets?  YES!!!!

According to their website, here’s how Frieda & Nellie got started.  “Reuse, Repurpose, Reinvent: That’s the mantra of bauble-making New York City based Best friends Stacy Herzog and Sarah Reid. While traveling in Ecuador in late 2009 Herzog and Reid were inspired by the diverse array of intricate knotted friendship bracelets and were instantly reminded of their friendship bracelet making days at summer camp. The duo, who met working in the fashion industry in New York, Began to hand make bright detailed knotted friendship style bracelets and once back in New York they began combining them with pieces from their grandmothers’ vintage jewelry collections that they wore on a regular basis. The mix of the friendship bracelets and beautiful vintage created a new wonderful sophisticated line of jewelry. Frieda and Nellie is named in honor of the designer’s glamorous and creative grannies.”

Wedding Canopies & Arches

There is something incredibly romantic about getting married under a wedding canopy.  Don’t you agree?  A canopy or arch can also serve as a great focal point for your wedding ceremony.  Plus, they work equally well for both indoor and outdoor ceremonies.  And…of course, a beautifully decorated canopy or arch would look fabulous in your wedding photos!  Depending on how elaborate your canopy or arch is, you could possibly have it transported to the reception site after the ceremony and utilize it to make your grand entrance as husband and wife!  Canopies and arches can be designed according to your specific wedding location, colors, flowers, theme, season..or even to an activity that you both enjoy.

Here are just a few wedding canopy and arch ideas…to get those creative juices flowing!
