Jordan: “Michael and I started planning our wedding when we found out that he will be deploying to Afghanistan. I am so proud of Michael, he loves his country and fights hard for it. He joined the Army right out of High School in 2005 and this deployment will be Michael’s fourth tour to Afghanistan. I have always supported his military career and will stand by him every second. The military makes a man strong and that is only one of Michael’s many characteristics that I love. We look at his deployments as an adventure in life, I do not come from a military family and have never experienced a deployment before I met Michael. We know it will be challenging but our love for each other is so grand! He knows that my face will be the first face he see’s when he gets off that plane. We can not wait for that moment, for which we can continue our life and start building our family together.”

Jennifer filled us in on the DIY details from the wedding …

Jennifer: “I used old barn siding and painted signs to help guests find the farm.  I also incorporated several of the hand painted signs into the reception décor.  We rented the tent and all of the tables, chairs, linens & bars from Herriot’s rentals.  I gathered several family members & friends and we did all the setting up and decorating ourselves.  To save money we grew several of the pumpkins and gourds ourselves and I purchased the rest from a local pumpkin patch.  We had a variety of centerpieces on the tables.  The centerpieces ranged from the bridesmaids bouquets, carved out pumpkins holding candles or mums, old lanterns to several faux fall flower arrangements in mason jars that I made myself and have already used again.  We used mini pumpkins & gourds to hold the table numbers and tea light candles.  Being out in the open I was worried escort cards would blow away so I printed small flat cards and hung them with clothes pins from rows of twine between 2 posts.  I scattered copies of our parents & grandparents wedding pictures along with a few of our engagement pictures in with the escort cards.  I was able to use my home printer and a paper cutter to make all of the escort cards, table numbers and wedding programs myself.”

Even all of the food was DIY!! Everyone pitched in to provide a lovely meal for the 300 guests. The menu included a hearty homemade dinner followed by homemade pies and ice cream.  The couple even set out a sweets table and a station for DIY s’mores and hot chocolate for the end of the night. Jennifer: “We had so much fun planning, creating and celebrating our wedding.  As a little girl playing in front of my parent’s barn I never would have imagined I would also share my first dance with my husband there but now I couldn’t have imagined a better place.  I had a vision of how to transform my parent’s farm into a magical reception.  I loved how that vision actually came to life and that we had a great photographer to capture it.  I loved that we were able to incorporate so many special details into the day. Most of all I loved how much our wedding represented us and that so much of it was homemade by us, family or friends which made those details and our day even more special.”

Amanda: “I did quite a lot of online research for perfect, off the beaten path and unique places to get married. I came across Figueroa Mountain Farmhouse and fell in love with the pictures. I could see us there among all the beauty in a very natural outdoor wedding. The minute we drove up the long road towards the house I got that “this is perfect..I can see my wedding day” feeling. It was the most beautiful old farmhouse setting out on a huge plot of private land overlooking the Los Olivos country side. We are both very laid back people and we thought this spot would really give us a wonderful “under the stars” farmhouse chic wedding! The accommodations at the farmhouse are large enough that we could have our whole wedding party stay there with us and make a weekend out of it. It felt like home and the best place for us to spend quality time with our closest friends, be in a gorgeous setting and begin our new life together! To be honest..we still dream about living at the farmhouse and reminisce about our wedding weekend there all the time.
Side Note: we were married by our best friend (who became a Deputy for the Day thru the state of California). He is the reason we met, it was his apartment that we both stayed in and met in LA. It kind of brought things full circle for him to marry us and bless our union. He also had a lifelong dream of marrying friends..glad we could make it come true! ”

Cory: “Ashley and Lucas’ wedding at the Old Glory Ranch was a small intimate celebration that was both country chic and rustic. The ranch offered family and friends an intimate al fresco pavilion with cedar tables, which the couple lined with rustic burlap runners and brown metal vases. Favors of homemade cookie mix and packets of blue bonnet seeds overflowed from nearby galvanized metal buckets. The colors of the wedding were: navy blue, coral and ivory and beautiful flowers were provided by florist Julie Wiley. Sophie’s Choice Bakery made a yummy bridal cake with hand-painted bluebonnets and a grooms cake shaped like Texas. They also whipped up a stunning dessert bar featuring pies, eclairs, and cookies served atop raw bark trunks! Texas Rib Kings provided barbeque and beer was served in custom made beer cups. Who doesn’t like custom beer cups?!?! The couple spiced up the celebration with mini party donkeys decorated in colorful flower wreaths who carried around water bottled for the guests!! Personal touches were very important to the couple, and it certainly resulted in a very special day filled with creativity and country love!!”

Rosaura: “No one ever expects their romantic hilltop venue, created specifically for them, would get rained out in June. Well, that’s exactly what happened to Marielle and Eric! The morning of the wedding, I received a call from the event planner, Eileen Chiu, asking if I had a 4 by 4. I got a little nervous. Apparently that was the only way vendors were going to be able to make it up the roads, which had become a big muddy mess. There were contingency plans for the rain, which included extending the big white tent and moving things under it but no one expected the road leading up to the event would become un-usable. So after much drama (where the wedding was almost cancelled), truck wheels spinning in the mud, and many phone calls and brainstorming sessions, the wedding was moved to a new venue.

Not just any venue… It was Marielle’s family warehouse for the Marquez Brothers, makers of that famous Mexican cheese. It was a major feat to transform an industrial-looking warehouse to a wedding and reception venue within a matter of hours. But with the help of all the vendors (coordinators, caterers, bakers, florists, lighting designers, mariachis, rental equipment folks, cigar roller, pink berry, taco truck, videographers, photobooth people and photographers) the family and the bridal party … the wedding was successfully moved and Marielle and Eric did get married!

One really important note, Marielle’s father had passed away when she was a teenager and he was extremely dear to Marielle. She even had a photo of him dangling from her bouquet to keep him close for the wedding. Well, that warehouse was her father’s pride and joy and in the end it felt right to celebrate the big day there with his presence being felt even stronger. It was a beautiful and stressful day (with the first dance at midnight and party ending at 4am) and in the end all that mattered was the love that filled that warehouse and they were married at last. ”

Here’s a little about the lovely couple from their photographer, Alecia …

Alecia: Cat and Jeremy met when they were both attending Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida. They were only friends and did not start dating until they both moved back home to Boston after graduation. After 4 years of dating Jeremy tied a note to their dogs neck with the words- Will You Marry Me on it! Getting married in Newport was the perfect location for them. It combined their love of the water and boating! Their choice of yellow, blue and ivory continued their nautical theme. Every day is usually sunny and bright but on their wedding day, fog rolled in. The kind of fog that you can’t see 3 feet in front of you but Cat and Jeremy did not let that damper their day.
