Last week I shared some of my favorite chevron wedding inspiration and I was so smitten with it all, that I decided to create a DIY project to go along with this theme! This tutorial is for a chevron heart wall hanging. The great thing about this project is that it makes a lovely decor item for your wedding day and can also hang in your home when it’s over!
Start with a blank canvas…
Step 1: Zig and Zag – You have a few options for this step. I used a ruler and evenly measured out the chevron zigzags on the canvas. If you prefer rulers and measurments, that’s the way to go. If not, you can either create a zigzag stencil out of cardstock or use masking tape to form a guide for the zigzags (this will give you crisp, straight lines).
Step 2: Paint – Start painting in those chevron stripes!
Step 3: Trace – Once I had a few stripes painted in and had a better feel of how the canvas would look, I decided on the size of the heart. I cut a large heart out of card stock, centered it as best I could and traced in onto the canvas.
Step 4: Continue Painting – Finish painting the chevron pattern on your canvas leaving the heart shape blank.
Step 5: Color & Coat – Choose the color for your heart and paint it. I let the whole thing dry completely and then added a second coat to all colors for full coverage.
Step 6: Monogram – You may opt to leave your chevron painting as is. But… to give it a custom touch, you can add initials. Using letter stencils, paint on your initials.
