Pumpkins are a super cute detail for fall weddings. But (please!) don’t be fooled into thinking that you need bright orange as a wedding color in order for them to fit in with your wedding decor. With a little paint and a crafty hand, you can make pumpkins tie in seamlessly with your wedding decor!

Note: Depending on your schedule, you can opt to use real or fake pumpkins. While it is fun to use real ones, there is definitely a plus to using fake pumpkins… you can get them ready months in advance without worrying about them going bad. If you’re leaning towards this option for your Fall 2013 wedding, I would recommend searching for sales later this week, after Halloween!
Step 1 – Start with a white base coat. Even if you are painting your entire pumpkin another color, a white base helps to ensure your paint color will hold true. If you paint a color directly on the pumpkin first, the orange may show through or give the color of your paint a different look.
Step 2 – Once your pumpkins are painted white, you can start to add color and design! Choose paint colors that fit in with your wedding color scheme. I was looking for a color that still had an Autumn appeal but wasn’t orange. I the best color fit I came across in the store was actually a nail polish! Because I loved the metallic bronze (perfect for a fall wedding!) I went with that and painted a different pattern on each pumpkin.
Step 3 – Display your pumpkins! These would be adorable details as decor throughout your event – grouped as centerpieces, decor for your gift and guest book tables or sprinkled through any aspect of your reception!
