Ideas for Fun and Creative DIY Wedding Photo Booths
What wedding trend are more and more brides and grooms having fun with? Photo Booths! Having a photo booth at your reception is a fun way to get guests to interact with each other and is a great activity that guests can do during the cocktail hour, while the bride and groom take their wedding photos!
Although this is becoming a big trend, it can also be a big expense if you haven’t left room in your budget. Have no fear! Here are a few tips and tricks to make your own custom photo booth for your wedding! With these backdrop ideas for your photo booth, your wedding will surely be remembered for being fun and creative!
One important thing you need when creating your own photo booth is a camera man (aka: a friend, which really means: Cheap Labor! hehehe). The camera man can take photos of all your guests as they enter the reception. If you have a photo printer you can set up a print station so your guests will be able to take home their lovely photos.
There are many different ways to create a backdrop for your photo booth. I’m going to list 3 ideas, which are all equally adorable and beautiful to include in your wedding celebration.
This first idea is the most time consuming, but could potentially be the most interactive experience. This idea consists of constructing a stage or wall of some kind, with cutout squares acting as window frames. The wall must be large enough for guests to stand behind. You can decorate the exterior of the stage with paint or wallpaper. Hang antique picture frames on the window cutouts, making the setting appear as a real as possible. Guests will surely love this photo booth with it’s realistic appearance.
Another idea for creating a photo booth is to hang a large panel of fabric on the wall. This backdrop idea is cheap, fast, and adorable. With this idea you can also match the backdrop with your wedding colors, making the theme of your photo booth cohesive with the overall design and color scheme of your wedding.
The last idea is to use a large paper backdrop. The idea of using a paper backdrop allows you to customize the backdrop by having your monogram in the background – or a custom design that was used in other parts of your wedding such as your wedding invitation. Print your backdrop at a nearby print shop and voila! Hang the custom design backdrop at your wedding, and your guests can admire your beautiful work while having fun pictures taken!
On the day of your wedding, remember to bring props for the guests to use in the photo booth! Fake mustaches, hats, giant sunglasses … anything can be used as a prop.
Lastly, after the wedding, consider uploading all the photo booth images to a photo sharing website like flickr or snapfish where guests are able to receive and/or print the digital copy of their photos as well. Happy Crafting :)

It took the photographer 30 minutes to setup and worked all night with random people just pushing the remote button. It was a real hit!
Anyone have any ideas on how to make a shutter release button? I have a cannon powershot digital camera, and I was going to mount it on a tripod in front of the backdrop. However, I wanted a remote button people could press when they were ready for the photo to be taken. Thanks!
I am getting married in July, we have 550 people attending, it is an Indian wedding, our parents would like pictures to be taken with the bride and groom during our reception. We can not afford to take pictures with 500+ people and we do not want to take pictures. How can we have people take pictures and have the bride and groom embedded onto the final photo?
