This fun DIY rope word project, from Garett + Jessica over at Wednesday, is super duper easy…and should only take you about 10 minutes to complete from start to finish. If this project looks familiar…it was created as a feature for Green Wedding Shoes. I love this project for its simplicity. You can spell out pretty much anything in rope…your names, wedding date, or any other wedding related word or phrase. Wondering what to do with your rope words? Hang them on a wall, tie them to a tree, or back of a chair…or just lay them on a table or other flat surface for decoration. Here’s the project in a nutshell…
Here’s what you’ll need:
Once you have all your supplies, prepare your working area by laying down some wax paper. Next, pick a word you want to scribe out in rope. Please keep in mind that the longer the word, the more flimsy it will be when dried. Depending on how confident you feel with your freehand rope writing, you may want to sketch your word out onto the wax paper first.
Next mix the cornstarch, glue and warm water together in a mixing bowl and mix until smooth (aka not clumpy).
Begin feeding the rope into the glue mixture and allow the rope to be fully saturated by the glue.
Now it’s time to write out your word with the rope. If you’ve already sketched out your word onto the wax paper, you can simply trace your rope over that. Be sure to press down hard in the areas where the rope overlaps. You may also need to apply extra glue mixture to those areas to ensure it will hold when dried. And that’s it! Once you’ve finished, let your word dry on a hard flat surface for about 12 hours.
