Cupcakes on their own are pretty darn cute. But add an adorable topper to them and they are down-right delightful!! Today I have a very easy tutorial for handmade cupcake toppers. You can make these in bulk for a large event like a wedding or bridal shower. Or, you can make just a few and add them to your cupcakes for a charming dessert display at a dinner party!
- Craft Paper – color & white
- Popsicle Sticks
- Scissors (or circle punches if you have them)
Step 1: Trace – Decide what size you want your toppers to be and trace circles in that size on your colored craft paper. Make double the amount of toppers as you will need two colored circles for each topper – a front and back. Then, trace slightly smaller circles on the white craft paper. For the white circles, you only need one white circle per topper.
Step 2: Cut – Cut out all circles. If you have a circle punches (in two sizes), you can skip step one and just start punching!
Step 3: Customize – With your markers, customize the smaller white circles (shapes, words, monograms, etc.). I wanted my toppers to have a handmade look so I chose to hand draw the hearts. If you’d prefer a more crisp, consistent look, you can also use stencils or stamps for the designs on your toppers.
Step 4: Glue – Add glue to the backs of the circles and the edge of the popsicle stick. Then, piece your toppers together in order (color circle #1, popsicle stick, colored circle #2, customized white circle) and press firmly until all layers are held together.
Step 5: Stick – Stick these cute little puppies right in your cupcakes for a delightful addition to an already sweet treat!
