This Maryland wedding was a beautiful black tie event. Caitlin and James tied the knot at the Naval Academy Chapel and celebrated in a reception at the Chesapeake Bay Beach Club and Hamilton Photography captured the event. Caitlin is here today to share all of the details about the wedding day.
Caitlin: James and I are both very traditional yet anyone who knows us knows like to have fun too, and our wedding falls right in line… a classic and timeless celebration. For our ceremony, we chose the Naval Academy Chapel. James attended the Naval Academy for college, which allowed us this honor. In the past, the chapel’s beauty and size had seemed to swallow me whole but not on this day. The added touch of so many of our loved ones; dressed to the nines in black tie attire there to support us seemed to take center stage.
My father passed away when I was only 8 years old. You will see a cat pin that he gave me on my bouquet. Walking down the aisle, something I dreaded doing without my father, became one of my favorite and most meaningful moments of the day. I walked down the aisle holding my mother’s (Matron of Honor’s) hand in one hand and my bouquet with a remembrance of my father in the other.
James had my rings custom made with diamonds that were left to him by his grandmother. And, the ring I gave James was my grandfather’s wedding ring. I was never able to meet James’s grandmother and he was never able to meet my grandfather, but I love that we get to share their love and remembrance on a daily basis.
After the ceremony we were all transported to the reception at the Chesapeake Bay Beach Club. The venue sits on the opposite side of the water as the Naval Academy and has the most gorgeous views of the sunset. We chose the Sunset ballroom, which has four distinct areas in which to celebrate. Guests had the option of spending time in the dining area/ballroom, the bar/cocktail area, the rooftop deck overlooking the Bay Bridge, and an outdoor space with beach access.
The Chesapeake Bay Beach Club is known for their excellent service and food, and they didn’t disappoint! Guests munched on a variety of foods, a lot of which included crab… a Maryland staple.
James and my first kiss and first time to say I love you were both in a little dive bar we loved in Georgetown. The bar had a funk band that played every Saturday night and we used to go and dance for hours. Unfortunately the bar closed a few months before our engagement. For our wedding we decided to track down the band and have them play. They did a wonderful job, and brought back many special memories of our early days of dating.
