One of the latest and greatest “must-haves” at weddings is the candy, cookie or popcorn buffet. This trend is probably a take-off of the traditional “Sweet tables” that are commonplace at Italian and Greek weddings. But unlike traditional sweet tables, these fun buffets feature decorative vases, containers, apothecary jars, scoops, ladles, favor containers and cute signs and labels. Additionally, candy buffets often function as the favor item, rather than being just another additional dessert item.
Candy and other treat buffets can include cookies, popcorn, chocolate covered pretzels or candy. You can even go retro with the candy selections or use a local favorite. For example, here in Chicago, many brides fill their containers with hometown favorite Garrett Popcorn. It’s a great way to bring some local FLAVOR to your event!
The signs are part of the fun and can label the candies/popcorn by flavor or simply with cute sayings like “Groom’s Favorite” or “Love is Sweet” or “Treat Yourself”. Candy can be purchased in the colors of the wedding or ribbons can also be added to personalize with more color. A great source for candy online is Candy Warehouse. (I even used them for the candy for my own wedding to much success!)
If you love the idea of a candy buffet but dread having to buy a million containers you should check if your florist/event planner/venue rents them out. I actually offer over 35 different container options for rent by my clients along with creating the signs and providing the scoops and tongs–so I am sure there are other vendors out there who do the same.
Here are some of my favorite candy and treat buffet details:
The below bride had a caricature portrait done of her and the groom in a candy bowl–and surprised the groom an guests with it on the Candy Buffet table!
