Pantone (the color experts) just released their fashion colors for Spring 2012–and I love them! You can check out more info about the colors on their website, and also note there is an entirely different color palette for men (which I also posted below). I am glad to see that many of my clients’ color palettes will totally fall in line with these tones!

And the 2012 Color of the Year is TANGERINE TANGO…!
I think my personal favorite colors are Tradewinds, Vintage Khaki, Driftwood and Sweet Lilac. I love neutrals and soft feminine shades for weddings. I would love to see more neutral-colored bridesmaids dresses with color pops achieved in the jewelry, shoes & bouquets. I also love darker neutrals for linens. Tradewinds, Driftwood, and Vintage Khaki would all make for perfect linen colors that would be a great base for a beautiful tablescape using some of these other hues.
I am also really into air plants and succulents right now, and think Grass Green and Margarita exemplify some of the tones you find in the plants. I noticed a lot of BLUES in this palette but suggest using only one blue at a time. The blue should be paired with a color that compliments it well–and not another non-nature color. Doing a “Cockatoo” and silver wedding is going to leave you very few choices for flowers–basically nothing comes in the¬ Cockatoo color and only some foliages come in shades of gray that could represent silver. You’d be stuck with all-white flowers or would have to bring in some other color if you wanted more color in the flowers. I have had a few brides try to mix shades of blue and from a floral-standpoint, that is hard to do as there are only about 7 flowers that come in blue, and most brides only like 3 of the 7 blooms!
If you are set on using a blue shade, here are some color combos that would work great from this list:
Hawaiian Ocean + Tangerine Tango & Solar Power
Dazzling Blue + Driftwood, Starfish & an ivory tone
Sodalite Blue + Cabaret
Cockatoo + Sweet Lilac & Bellflower
My advice: pick at least one color that you’ve seen in nature (and I don’t mean sky blue) if you want to ensure you will have a bountiful assortment of wedding flowers.
So were you color-trendy without even knowing it?! Are you using any of these colors in your Spring 2012 wedding?
