Allie and Rick had a beautiful Fall wedding on a California beach that was overflowing with DIY wedding projects. The day was filled with sunshine, carefully planned details and lots of love! Alyssa, of Hybrid Photography, was there to photograph the day … and was kind enough to share her photos with us!
Alyssa: “Allie and Rick told me that they knew they didn’t have to sacrifice the wedding of their dreams just because they didn’t fit the stereotype of a couple in their 20s planning a wedding. Allie spent many nights crafting and made her nearest Michael’s craft store her second home to make her and Rick’s dream fall wedding come true. The wedding was held on the beach on 10/10/10 and was accented with gorgeous fall colors and handmade, crafty details.”
Allie: “The wedding really was a fun project! I so enjoy working with paper, color, fonts & graphics that all would work well together and give the delightful feeling I had in mind. The theme was Love Birds on the beach with the highlights of Autumn. Our colors were Chocolate Brown, Sage Green and Ivory with the ‘pop colors’ being the warm shades of Autumn, such as orange gerbers, sunflowers, little pumpkins and gourds. I felt it all ‘played well together’. As the sun set, all got warmer as the many votive candles added a their own glow & warmth.”
I love this picture (below)! There is nothing like the expression of the bride and groom right after the ceremony!
Allie: “The best savings were making many decorations and printed items ourselves, and also catching needed items at after season and clearance sales. For example two dozen vintage styled votives, brown and green glazed candle lovebirds and a bucket of colorful fall branches all for 50-75% off. I knew they would be items that would be ‘in season’ by the time of our fall wedding. We stumbled into a Michael’s store that was closing and found 3 boxes of chocolate brown colored invitation kits and one for programs that matched. These worked perfect for us and were a fraction of the cost of having them created at a printer.
I have a real appreciation for graphic design so making a logo for the wedding was a fun project. It was in the colors of the wedding, with two lovebirds with our first names and the wedding date centered above them. This logo was then used throughout the wedding items, such as, invitations, programs, water bottles and candy labels and on the menu at the reception. To coordinate I ordered a ring bearer’s pillow and silver lovebird place card holders that matched. These were the favors for the guest to take home with them.”
Here are a few great shots Alyssa got of some of the details at the ceremony. It looks like all of the nights Allie spent crafting paid off! …
Congratulations Allie and Rick!
