Save the dates are slightly controversial.  Many brides feel as if they are a waste of time and money whereas others give them just as much importance as the actual invitation itself.

Traditionally, save the dates have been used for advanced notification for weddings that fell on a day other than Saturday or Holiday weekends.  Today, the sky is the limit and save the dates are becoming the norm.

My personal take on the save the date is that it is essential!  Not only because I love everything wedding related no matter how trivial but because it’s a courtesy to your guests.  My husband and I like to plan our vacations in advance.  We need to plan them well in advance due to his work schedule.  He needs the extra time to secure a trade at work or receive vacation.  Having that extra advanced notification is extremely appreciated!

With today’s economy, traveling and taking vacations (even for a weekend) is becoming more and more scarce.  Give your guests the extra time to save up or work it out financially in order to attend your wedding festivities, especially if your wedding is a destination wedding.
