What inspired you to start Red Cloud Boutique?
The idea of starting my own business came to me when I was planning my own wedding. I had decided from the beginning that I wanted my wedding to be as unique as possible and chose to go the handmade route. Along with Etsy sellers and creations of my own, I had the wedding of my dreams. I did it all in less than 6 months. I was hooked on crafting and handmade items and during those 6 months I was my happiest. I knew that this was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. Two months after the wedding, and after one of my boss’ out bursts, I packed my things, quit my job and opened up shop. It was as simple as that. I haven’t looked back since. It was a leap of faith… but definitely one of my proudest moments.
What options for customization do you offer?
A lot of my work is based on customization. I do custom designs for clients all the time, as no wedding is the same. DIY weddings are so huge and the themes are endless. I love making items that are personal and special to the couples themselves. Sometimes, unique ideas in turn have inspired me to create new products. I love the chain reaction of the whole process.
If you could give one tip to couples who are planning a wedding, what would it be?
One piece of advice I could give to couples who are planning a wedding is to plan ahead as early as possible. It is never too early… especially if you choose to make a lot of pieces yourself. Handmade or diy crafts are very time consuming and the earlier you start, the better. Ask as many people as possible to help. It makes everything so easy in the end and those moments that you spend together creating are the best moments.
Is there a particular niche you target?
Although I don’t have a particular niche (because I am passionate about so many different things), I do try to incorporate eco-friendly products in my work. Weddings tend to produce tons of garbage and can have such a negative impact on the environment. For example; the single-use bleached white dresses, chemically treated imported flowers, toxic makeup and skin care products, mined gem-based jewelry and the individual packets of rice to name a few. I feel that by making products that aren’t easily disposable such as cloth favors bags, consumer waste recycled seed favor packets with seeds, and wood invitation magnets, I am doing my part by giving back to mother nature. I have actually comes across areas the size of football fields with trees that have been cut down by developers for new homes. Although I am unable to take the whole forest home, I take pride in the fact that I have honored a lot of these poor souls by turning them into a form of art and sending them all over the world to homes where they are truly appreciated instead of the dump or some fire pit which is only damaging the environment even more.
What is something that most people don’t know about your biz/you?
I started my shop with $0.00 and with no knowledge of how to run a home business. I’m still kicking a year later.
What is your one must-have tool to have on-hand when you’re working?
My iPad mini! When I’m on the road, I can answer questions and emails from customers and see how my business is doing! My iPad is my partner in crime!
If you had to choose one phrase to describe your business what would it be?
An environmentally conscious wedding wonder shop!
5 Things that make you happy?
My husband, my wolves (dogs), my home, my business, and my customers
Wedding Cake, cupcakes, or a candy bar? Which is your personal fave?
I’ve been assisting and interning at weddings over the past year (as wedding photography is my next goal in life…) and I have seen tons of cakes, sweets tables, etc. I have to say the cupcake bar is my absolute favorite!! Cupcakes are gorgeous, delicious, a good portion size for everyone. And you don’t have to cut anything up which is so time consuming if you’re serving a large party.
