What inspired you to start Lindsay Letters?
Unlike every girl in the 80s, I never dreamed of being a ballerina or a marine biologist. I’ve wanted to be a stationer and create art for people since I can remember. It took a lot of restless nights and a huge leap of faith, but when I finally took the plunge and decided to put my all into my business, my heart hit the ceiling. I feel like I’m doing exactly what I was made to do, and I can’t imagine doing anything else!

What options for customization do you offer?
I offer custom address stamps, custom stationery, monogram stamps, and monogram art prints. As far as wedding invitations, I’m currently partnering up with my friend Claudia of Fig. 2 Design Studio to offer completely customizable calligraphy wedding invitations. The designs are all created, and we can’t wait to share them with everyone this spring!
If you could give one tip to couples who are planning a wedding, what would it be? Pick and choose what’s most important to you and forget the rest. I bought myself my favorite ever necklace from J. Crew but skipped on the ceremony programs because I didn’t have the budget or time for both – and I’m in the paper business! No one ever asked where the programs were, and I got an heirloom piece that I’ve shared with many of my engaged friends since!

Is there a particular niche you target?
I really enjoy creating for women who love beautiful things, but appreciate a little bit of whimsy and carefree with their glitter.

If you could advise couples not to overlook one key detail in their wedding plans, what would it be?
The importance of a great photographer who is a good fit with your personality. You’ll spend more time with your photographer than your groom, and his or her personality will really set the tone for your day.

What is something that most people don’t know about your biz/you?
I have terrible, terrible handwriting. No, seriously. I draw letters and words like some people might draw people or fruit, but if I were to just write you a note, it would be terrible. Like a doctor on too much caffiene.

What is your one must-have item to have on-hand when you’re working?
Music.

If you had to choose one word to describe yourself/your business what would it be?
Mission.

5 Things that make you happy?
Family & friends, hope, inspiring spaces, coffee, cooking

What is your personal favorite color used in weddings?
LOTS of colors. Skip the old school one color + one accent color.  Just pick colors you like.  It will all come together.

On your day off you can be found…
Playing with my amazing daughter & getting sushi with my husband

Wedding Cake, cupcakes, or a candy/cookie bar? Which is your personal fave?
All of it. What time? I’ll be there.

What it would your personal dream wedding look like?
Already had it!  It looked like this: Tree Farm Wedding

What makes your service unique?
My writing.

Tell us why you think you’re popular choice for brides and grooms.
I think clients appreciate the fact that it looks like a human touched it, but they don’t have to do the work of actually creating a DYI piece. There’s something comforting and warming about handwriting as opposed to fonts.

If you could work on the ultimate destination wedding, where would it be?
Somewhere WARM – Chicago is FREEZING!!!
