A Day in the Life of A Talented Wedding Photographer
On an ordinary day, Yun Gen Yang can often be found capturing sun kissed brides against the backdrop of a majestic ocean, or bustling through the streets of a busy city documenting blissfully happy couples in their most priceless moments, or even hanging out in his own studio with his adorable dog, Clyde. It is rare to find people who are as passionate about their work as Yun. A New York City based wedding photographer and a true artist, Yun is taking the wedding photography world by storm.
Photography started becoming a part of his life in high school, when his initial interest in it was mostly black and white film. “Every time I picked up a camera and took a shot, I felt like I was capturing something special, something that I could forever remember,” says Yun. His enjoyment then progressed to color landscape photography. “I remember I would sometimes pull over to the side of the road as I was driving to capture the surroundings, the different colors of everything”. After interning with a couple of commercial photographers, Yun began shooting weddings professionally. It was then that he realized how much he loved catching the pure emotion of the moment. “That was a feeling I was never able to attain from shooting professional models,” he says.
I found Yun while in the process of planning my Texas wedding from New York City. I often joke that “google” planned my wedding, when in reality it really did me justice! I stumbled upon Yun’s website while ‘googling’ (if that is a verb) engagement photographers. Our plan was to have a New York based photographer to do our engagement pictures and a Texas based photographer to capture our wedding. From our initial interaction with Yun, he was professional, reliable and never hard to reach. We met at Coney Island beach one early, sunny, Sunday morning. As the three of us made our way around the city, stopping at different areas to take pictures, Yun, with his charismatic and fun loving personality, made us feel comfortable and free in front of the camera. As we looked through our gorgeous engagement pictures a few weeks later, we knew our initial plans were about to change. We asked Yun to come to Texas to capture some of our wedding events!
Using Creative Wedding Photography to Make Lasting Memories
Yun traveled from New York all the way to Houston for our wedding week festivities. Despite being on a flight that got diverted to Austin, Yun found a way to make it to Houston..early! From the minute he walked into my house, he charmed my family and friends. People who never wanted their picture taken, wanted to ‘strut’ in front of Yun’s camera! From making my dad feel like ‘Paul Newman’ to getting my brother to flash his beautiful smile, Yun captured every emotion in its purest sense. When I look back at the pictures he took during my wedding week, my heart leaps with each moment of excitement, happiness and laughter. And my mind rushes back to every memory as if it was happening for the first time. I can say now that pictures do speak a thousand words and your wedding pictures should do just that. “My responsibility to my clients is to not only document their wedding, but to take pictures that will continue to bring back the emotions and the feeling of that exact moment even 50 years later when they are showing their grand-kids,” says Yun.
On any given day, Yun can be found creating magic with his camera. On the beach one day, in the city the next, from New York City to Texas. The pictures relate their own unique story, each more stunning than the next. And in the life of a wedding photographer, no day is ordinary.
